About Shady Trails
Founded in 1932 by Traverse City native John Clancy, Shady Trails camp is nestled on twenty seven beautiful, wooded acres on Grand Traverse Bay between the villages of Omena and Northport. For most of its existence Shady Trails was a speech therapy camp for boys and girls. Over the years, many hundreds of campers spent their summers at Shady Trails learning to cope with their speech problems.
Today Shady Trails is a day camp for children between the ages of six and fourteen years old. During the month of July, we offer a full range of camp activities and programs that are designed to provide learning experiences and recreational activities in a natural setting where children can explore their values, social relationships, and their approaches to learning in a safe, non-judgmental, nurturing community.
